Bank Muscat – Post Number 3

So after I wrote my post and Bank Muscat eventually called me this morning saying that will give me my money back. I received two calls from Bank Muscat the Sohar Branch around 5pm today. The person who called asked to know what the “55 Rial mess was all about”. I was not sure what he wanted to know exactly, he started telling about what his employee Narjis told him and that he was surprised by *the email* he got today. I explained to him what I went through from the time I paid the bill. He tried to imply that it was the fault of the first person who answered the phone when I called from the Bank Muscat City Centre branch. He apologised for what is happening and told me that it will hopefully be solved soon. I told him that the quality control department called me and said that I will get my money back in 3 days. He said ‘Inshallah’.

We hung up and then in less than 2 minutes he called back asking about the number which I put in the machine when I attempted to make the payment, I told him that it is the number that was on the receipt (he has a copy of it) and that this is the bill number.
At 7.30pm I got a message from Oman Mobile saying that I’ve paid RO 55 to my mobile phone bill…. DID THE STUPID PEOPLE AT BANK MUSCAT THINK THAT OMAN MOBILE WAS STILL WAITING FOR THE PAST 3 FREAKING MONTHS FOR MY 55 RIAL PHONE BILL?! I ASKED TO GET MY BLOODY MONEY BACK AND I ALREADY PAID THAT FREAKING BILL OBVIOUSLY AND NEVER WANTED TO HAVE IT PAID TO STUPID OMAN MOBILE AGAIN. THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL I CAN GET MY MONEY FROM OMAN MOBILE ONCE IT IS PAID TO THE FREAKING ACCOUNT.
About three hours passed since I got that message now, I was really mad. But now I’ve cooled down. Luckily, even though I am traveling in about two weeks, I have not yet cleared my Oman Mobile phone bill so I would have paid Oman Mobile anyway. Deep down inside I am not happy nor satisfied about this, but I know that I should be lucky I managed to get my money transferred to Oman Mobile.

Bank Muscat Will Give Me My Money Back

Just after I posted about my Bank Muscat saga yesterday, I woke up this morning at 10am by a phone call from Bank Muscat quality control office, they wanted to tell me that they are working on my problem and that they will solve it soon. Once I hung up the phone I got an SMS from Bank Muscat with a complaint ticket number. In less than 4 hours the quality control officer called again to tell me that the issue has been solved and that the payment will be deposited to my bank account within 3 days.

Update: a Bank Muscat quailty officer made a comment to my previous post:

i am sorry that you had to go through this.

In the future, if you need help on anything, just visit BankMuscat website. There is a customer feedback form which you can fill online and submit it.

beleive me, it goes dirctly to Management. You can also call the Quality Dept, they have a special team who follow up on this cases, and you can get a reply within 72 hours.

Bank Muscat Horrible Customer Service

I am so pissed at Bank Muscat, you really know how horrible the service is once something little just goes wrong. 

I used their ATM machine to pay my phone bill in June 2008, it didn’t accept my account number, so I put my bill number instead, it accepted it, withdrew the money, and my bill was NOT paid. I’ve been trying to get my money back (RO 55) for three months now and I haven’t gotten my money back.
  • I went to one of their branches on the next day I made the payment to tell them about the problem. He called the customer service, gave me the phone handset and the guy on the other side told me that he will file a complaint so that I can get the money back. He took my phone number and I never heard from him again.
  • I sent a fax to my home branch (Sohar Main Branch) last month telling them the story with a copy of the receipt I got and everything. Nobody ever responded to my fax.
  • I visited the Sohar Main Branch personally three weeks ago to tell them about the phone call, the fax, and my bill story. The girl I dealt with (her name is Narjis Al Ajmi) said that there is no record of my fax, she took my phone number and said that she will deal with it. 
  • Of course, nothing happened, nobody called. I visited her after one week. She said that she has talked to them and that she is working on it. She told me to come see her after one week.
  • More than one week passed, again, of course nothing happened. I went to see her today and she said that she is trying to call somewhere and nobody is picking up, she is busy in the early morning at and tries before working hours finish and nobody is answering. She then just gave me this look as if to say that she can’t do anything about it. I told her, “so you want me to call them myself?”, she said “yes”, and gave me a number on a paper, said that this is “their extension phone number”. I took the number home, and when I called it turned out to the Bank Muscat helpline or something. There was no extension number to dial. I got through to the operator and told her my problem. She took my phone number and said that they will call me back.
I am very mad. There is nothing that I can do to get my money back. I tried calling, I sent a fax, I went to see them at their branch. 
When the ATM machine in Egypt deducted money from my account without vending any cash I faxed them, they called me back because “I forgot to sign the letter”, I sent the fax again and I never heard from them again. I never got my money back.
I am really mad because I don’t think that I am going to get my money again back this time. I am travelling in less than three weeks and I don’t know what to do.

Suburban posted about her own experience with the horrible service of Emax. I’ve written about my own bad experience previously here. I have heard loads of other horrible stories from friends around here, do not really know what these idiots in Emax are thinking.

My first experience with the new Emax store opened at City Centre Muscat was extremely disappointing. Somehow I was so stupid to purchase a cheap phone cover which I honestly thought was genuine, I left the store, tried putting it on and found out that it was defective – it did not fit the phone.

I instantly went back to the store and asked the customer service desk for help, the Omani girl called up the phone department assistant on the PA system, I stood waiting for a minute, two, three, four, and nobody came. She then asked me to go and look for the guy myself, another stupid move I did, I walked to the phone department and talked to the first Indian, he told me to the talk the other one on the other side, I went up the second Indian who told me that I should be speaking to the first one that I have just been to. I instantly realised that I should not be doing this to myself, I went back to the stupid customer service girl and told her that the stupid phone dept people did not help. She called up again on the PA system, nobody came, after staying there for more than ten minutes she decided to go look for them themselves, in a minute she came back saying that the people that I need to talk to have gone to lunch and that I should come back in hour. I was in the store just looking for someone to talk to regarding the phone cover issue and I couldn’t find anybody. She did not offer me any other help. I left.

I got up seriously pissed about it the next morning, I went back to Emax and the same thing happened again: I stood there for 10 minutes, she called and called over the PA system and nobody came. Another women came up complaining about a faulty MP3 player she bought for her kid, the customer service girl told her that everybody is complaining about this MP3 player and that the women can exchange it for store credit which she could use to purchase stuff at the same price in the store, the woman said that she wants to get a refund because she doesn’t want to buy anything else from the store, the customer service girl said that they do not have a refund policy and that the woman would have to see the manager if she is not happy with store credit, the woman said okay fine where is this manager, the girl called him over the PA system, and you know what happened.

We stood there waiting. I’m waiting for ANYBODY to come talk to me, and the other woman waiting for the manager, we stood waiting and waiting, AND NO FREAKING BODY CAME, it was really annoying, I made up my mind to make an official complaint, I checked the receipt and it had a phone number on it, so I thought that I’ll save myself the useless wait and just leave. I told the woman waiting that I’ve been waiting for two days and nobody came up, I then asked the stupid customer service girl for her name (to mention that she did not offer any help when I make my complaint), she freaked out a bit when I asked her about her name, I repeated my question and she said told me that her name is Asmaa’ Abdul Karim.

Next day I called up the customer service number, told my story to the operator, he did not offer any solution and just told me to call the store manager, I called up the manager, he apologised and told me to come to the showroom to talk about it.

I went today to the showroom, I went up the customer service girl (she’s the only person you can talk to), I told her that I need to see the manager, she called him over the PA system, and I stood there waiting, five minutes pass before he actually comes, we didn’t talk much, I said that I want my refund and he said that I’ll get it, he asked me if I wanted to buy anything else from the store, I said no, we went up the cashier and got my money back, but the whole set of their staff was extremely rude, in the showroom itself NOT A SINGLE PERSON APOLOGISED, not even the manager himself. I am still so mad about it, I do not think that I will EVER buy anything from that place. You have been warning now, buy stuff from Emax at your own risk. Can’t believe they’ve been making press releases titled “Customer Service is Emax’s USP”.
