Sultan’s School Alumni Gathering

December 24th, 2006 | Posted in Events

The Sultan’s School held an alumni gathering last night, the event that had not ran for quite sometime is supposed to start once again on a yearly basis, but sadly not a great number of people seem to be interested in attending it anymore.

Only four guys (including myself) and five girls bothered to show up from my class. I am not so good with field statistics, but it looked like only a 100 people or so attended the event, a small number for the graduates of a school that was established in the 70s. None of the non-Arab teachers that taught me are with the school anymore, and only five of the Arab ones attended. It was really nice talking to the few people that came last night, but still, it is a shame on all of you Sultan’s School graduates that heard about this event and did not come!!!

I helped organise The Sultan's School Alumni Reunion. The event was on the school calendar sent to all parents. We put advertisements in The Week and The Arabic and English Dailies (cost, a great deal more than 200 Rials). We sent an email flier to all people on our school database (2000+ + addresses), we published the event in our online newsletter.
There is a registration online form on the website for Alumni where you can register so we can keep you up with our news. The next reunion will probably be held on Sunday, January 6 2008. Please inform us if there are any other ways of getting you guys to come! We do value you and love to see you back at the school.

I know this is a late reply.

Heard about the event, got the e-mail and still didnt show up since none of the people i knew from my class were bothered to attend.

I personally knew about this through some friends of mine, i.e. word of mouth. I have seen an advertisement for the event in The Week. (Don't know if it was published on anything else)

None of the people I asked in the last week knew about it. Sultan School has done a pretty horrible job keeping in touch with its alumni. I have two nieces and a nephew in the school and they didn't even bother to tell them to tell me. Couldn't this ultra rich school at the very least spend 150 or 200 rials to put a small notice in the newspaper to inform the alumni of the reunion? They reached out only to the freshly graduated alumni. I am class of 1990. My sister 1987. Even my brother who graduated in 1997 was not told about it.

I should write an email to the school to tell them that us old timers aren't happy with this. I just can't be bothered.
