Oman’s Anime and Games Forum

Saturday, December 24th, 2005

I received an email today from Oman’s Anime and Games Forum: http://www.digi-anime.com inviting to me to their website. I am really glad to see new Omani websites specialising in a certain topic. I wish them the best of luck in their project and I hope to see more and more well made Omani websites.

I hope that the makers of this forum would develop it to become a full website with sections such as news, reviews, and features rather than have it as a mere forum.

PS. To the person that emailed me from Digi-anime, there is something wrong with your email, the message keeps bouncing back.

Victoria – This is Me!

Tuesday, December 13th, 2005

Victoria is a bored school girl that was hanging out with a couple of her rapper friends (Mc Ni and Helico) with whom she decided to record a music album. They grabbed some of their favourite music CDs and went to the school’s AV room to make their album, got some beats from here and there, wrote some lines that might go with the music, and actually made a CD! Later on the same day, they distributed their album all over bittorrent websites so that people can listen to their fun experiments.

^^ this was the only explanation I could think of when I heard this album, I searched all over the web to know who the hell is Vicotria, her album can’t be found on Amazon or anywhere else. The album actually sounds good at the start, or lets say the first 20 seconds of it, using Ashanti’s Foolish beat in the intro sounded crazy, I think that Victoria can sing, maybe if somebody taught her how to, however, the rest of the album was horrible, the first actual song sounded… wrong, later on the thing just sounds stupid, I was laughing as I listened to the rest of the albums, not only that the lyrics were LAME, but she doesn’t even know how to sing. It got really irritating and I had to force myself to listen to the whole thing to give her a chance. She covered the Eagle’s “Hotel California” and the classic “Killing Me Softly” (this one in a foreign language). All of her lyrics are just lame, she was using all these quotes from other songs, like.. “At the Taj Mahal, you told me I’m beautiful, no matter what they say” and some other shit, and she kept on pimping herself as she cursed, shat, and squeaked. “I aint no ho, this is a club, so if you don’t like it, just go”.. and all the shake shake shake, until the break of dawn. I am not sure if I should talk about the freaky freaky Timbaland wannabe featured and the other two rappers onboard. This must’ve been the most horrible funniest album I’ve heard in a while.

I sincerely thought that this was an album produced in the way I described earlier, but I checked my download file once more, and I found a scanned image of the CD front and back artwork, they had put her website’s address and it seems that Victoria is a real artist, she is Czech…
http://www.victoriamusic.cz (Website doesn’t work in Firefox!?)

Luckily, this album cannot be found anywhere outside the Czech Republic…

Blood+

Sunday, December 11th, 2005

Earlier this week, MMK080 offered us a free stream for the first episode of season 2 of The Office, and because I did watch the episode he suggested, I think that he owes me an ‘episode watch’ as well. I will not spoil anything about Blood+, this is the first episode of the series of a high budget project that is currently only available for non-Japanese speakers via fansubs. Blood+ is just as its title suggests, very gory and bloody. Anyone interested in watching an anime with great artwork, unique characters, and a nice dark mysterious theme should check it out.

Download the first episode at this link. (The link will last for 7 days or 12 downloads, whichever comes first).

(And about MMK’s blog, I know it looks ugly, but you guys should check it out.)

Mary J Blige – The Breakthrough

Saturday, December 10th, 2005

I’ve never really been an MJB fan, I did like a couple of her hits, but I never even listened to whole album by her in the past, and now I regret it. The Breakthrough is nothing mind blowing, but it is the good old RnB, at its best. The album is quite diverse and features great production and high profile guest appearances including Darkchild, Dre & Cool, Jay Z Raphael Saadiq, Will I AM, The Game, and even U2′s own Bono. I only listened to the album yesterday and I’m already in love with so many tracks on it. It’s a LOONG album, so you gotta like something out of it.

1. No One Will Do
2. Enough Cryin (Feat. Brook)

3. About You (Feat. Will.I.Am and Nina Simone)

4. Be Without You

5. Gonna Breakthrough (Feat. Brook)

6. Good Woman Down

7. Take Me As I Am

8. Baggage

9. Can’t Hide From Luv (Feat. Jay-Z)

10. MJB Da MVP

11. Can’t Get Enough

12. Ain’t Really Me

13. I Found My Everything (Feat. Raphael Saadiq)
14. Father In You

15. Alone (Feat. Dave Young)

16. One (With U2)
17. So Lady (Feat Raphael Saadiq)

18. Show Love (Bonus Track)

(You can stream the first single “Be Without You” from Mary J Blige’s official website)

A Million Essays

Saturday, December 10th, 2005

I submitted my first essay this year yesterday, it is not counted, but yet compulsory, or that’s what they say. If you don’t do it nothing happens, but they claim that it helps in case you got into trouble at the end of the year (i.e. failed something!) so that at that time they check everything you submitted and if your grade is just a bit below 40, they might bump it up to 40 so that they just let you pass because you showed that you did work hard during the year.

Last year, I had four of these non-assessed essays and I did two and skipped two. This year I’ve got 5 because I am doing five modules this year, I did the first one, I am not going to do the second one, but I’m planning to do the last three due.

Shakira – Oral Fixation Vol.2

Tuesday, December 6th, 2005

Shakira’s Oral Fixation is a lyrical masterpiece, I couldn’t help it but drawn into Shakira’s novel of religion, love, and politics. Shakira’s second album is way more mature than Laundry Service, and is beautifully executed with the help of Carlos Santana and Gustavo Cerati so that Shakira tells a story full of images, places, names, and feelings. Oral Fixation is a very fresh sound that really touched me.

1. How Do You Do
2. Don’t Bother
3. Illegal (featuring Carlos Santana)
4. The Day and the Time (featuring Gustavo Cerati)
5. Animal City
6. Dreams for Plans
7. Hey You
8. Your Embrace
9. Costume Makes the Clown
10. Something

11. Timor
